The AWRA Washington Section and CWU Student Chapter are co-hosting a second tour of the Cle Elum Fish Passage Facility! This is primarily an AWRA-CWU Student Chapter event; however, professionals are encouraged to attend and network.
The Cle Elum fish passage project will improve access to 30 miles of river habitat and is projected to help increase sockeye return into the Yakima Basin fivefold, from 20,000 to 100,000 each year. The downstream juvenile fish passage facility features a first-in-the-nation helix design, allowing young salmon to make their migration to the ocean. The project will also include an upstream adult fish collection structure, which will allow fully grown salmon to remain in the river longer as they return to spawn in the upper reaches of the Yakima Basin.
