President's Notes

By Katherine Taiclet - Landau Associates and AWRA-WA Section President

Greetings from central Washington and happy spring. For those of you I have yet to meet, I am Katherine Taiclet, formerly Ryf. I am proud to serve on the Washington Section of the American Water Resources Association and am honored to be elected 2024 president. I would like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude to our 2023 board members and past president, Jessica Kuchan.

I also want to extend a sincere thank you to our members and donors who have generously contributed financially, enabling us to carry out our mission effectively. Your support has made a significant difference and has allowed us to continue our important work to promote community, conversation, and connection.

To our newly elected 2024 Board of Directors, I offer my congratulations and best wishes for a fulfilling term ahead. Together, let us continue to make a positive impact on the management of water resources in Washington.

The dynamics of weather patterns in 2024 have presented us with a range of challenges, particularly in managing water supplies effectively. As we've witnessed, these shifting weather conditions require us to adapt and innovate in our approaches to water resource management. It's through collaboration, research, and proactive planning that we can navigate these challenges and ensure the sustainable use of our water resources for both current and future generations.

I am excited to invite you to our virtual speaker series, where you'll have the opportunity to hear from a variety of specialists, ranging from student fellowship recipients to local water purveyors. Our inaugural speaker session on May 9, 2024, from 11:30a-12:30p will feature insights into Moses Lake Water Supply Challenges & Adaptive Response. Don't miss out on this engaging discussion.
